Police said Wednesday that five arrests have now been made in connection with the beating of a professional basketball player outside a Nicosia club on Sunday, which left him in critical condition.

AEL’s Corey Manigault, 23, is currently intubated in critical condition after he was beaten during a brawl outside a club in the early morning hours of Sunday.

Two others were also injured during the incident, Brandon Averette, who also plays basketball for AEL, and Manigault’s partner.

Speaking to reporters in Paphos, police spokesman Christos Andreou said that one person has been remanded in custody for eight days, while another warrant is expected to be issued soon and the identity of another is still being assessed.

Meanwhile, Manigault’s mother arrived in Cyprus on Tuesday from the US. According to a statement released by the player’s club, she was taken to the Nicosia general hospital shortly after landing.
