Paphos music fans have plenty of opportunities to listen to live music this winter as bands, theatres and bars organise back-to-back events. A venue that you can always count on for cultural events is Technopolis 20 and this December it is organising two more concerts, at Markideio Theatre.

On December 6, the Paphos arts centre invites music lovers on a journey to remember, with music that will take audiences from Athens to Paris, and from New York to Buenos Aires. As musicians Vakia Stavrou, Manolis Neophytou and Nikolas Efthymiou take the stage, the evening’s repertoire will feature familiar melodies and songs that have been loved and sung by millions of people around the world, that have endured over time and that many have associated with special moments of their lives. Favourite melodies and songs by Manos Hadjidakis, Mikis Theodorakis, Mimis Plessas, Edith Piaf, Ernesto Lecuona, Astor Piazzolla and other works from the international repertoire are included, along with a selection of festive pieces.

A few days later, on December 13, a classical accordion concert will take place at the theatre with Alexander Hrustevich. The last concert of the Technopolis 20 Classics concert series for the year comes from a Ukrainian accordion virtuoso. Hrustevich is a well-renowned bayanist of the music industry, often called by the critics ‘the orchestra man’. The bayan is a type of chromatic button accordion developed in Russia in the early 20th century and he has been playing it from a young age.

Today, Hrustevich performs as a soloist and as a member of the National Academy Orchestra of Ukraine and has already performed in Poland, Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia, Serbia, Brazil, Czech Republic, Belgium and many other countries. He has also performed with the legendary musician and composer Bobby McFerrin in Kyiv. December 13’s concert will a different, impressive musical evening featuring a rare instrument.
