Wednesday night is set to be the coldest of the season so far with temperatures set to drop to about six degrees Celsius inland – with heavy storms possibly hitting Cyprus next Sunday.

Coastal areas will reach ten degrees tonight while the higher mountainous villages are set for one degree, along with snowfall. At the peaks, winds are expected to reach three to four Beaufort but could reach five to six.

Local media quoted an official from the meteorological department as stating that the island may have to brace for severe storms on Sunday, but details in the coming days will show how severely it will strike the island.

The warning comes as the island endured widespread heavy rainfall, as storms raised the average rainfall in December to 52 per cent, up from 45 per cent just a day earlier, according to Kitas Weather.
