Keeping the music alive

New month, new year, new music performances! We have finally stepped into 2022 and the first week of January can feel a little slow and blurry, stuck in between work and holiday mode. Music nights are here however to ease the transition even amidst stricter measures.

Two jazzy performances are coming to Nicosia this Wednesday as local musicians prepare to step onto the stage once more. At Sarah’s Jazz Club, singer Sarah Fenwick joins Dimitris Miaris on piano and Irenaeos Koullouras on bass for the first Wednesday of 2022. A romantic Wednesday, as the organisers call it.

The event will begin around 8.30pm though the musicians will take the floor at 9pm to play jazzy tunes. All the same elements Sarah’s Jazz Club offers will be present – a cosy atmosphere, signature drinks, nibbles and good ol’ jazz music.

Tapeo e Vino also has a jazz night planned for Wednesday with the sounds of the saxophone. Musician Dimitrov will entertain guests with his sax melodies while vocalist Styliani Pitsillou sings jazz tunes. Tapas, cocktails and jazz are what this Wednesday will be all about.

Later on in the week, Sarah’s Jazz Club will welcome more musicians. The Alexis Kasinos Quintet will present two sets of original music on Saturday. The pieces the five-piece ensemble will perform are written by the leader of the band Alexis, and are mainly influenced by the modern jazz genre. Joining Alexis on stage are Marios Charalambous, Andreas Panteli, Cahit Kutrafali and Stelios Xydias.

Over in Paphos, the local covers band The Kards will perform a lively set at Darcy’s Restaurant & Lounge on January 15. The five-piece band will once more play a mix of songs from across the decades and musical genres in their first performance for the New Year. Jazz, blues, 80s and 90s beloved tunes to shake off the January blues.
