Heavy rains have destroyed conservation works at Assia’s Panayia church, the village’s community council said on Friday.

“We were very saddened to find out that the heavy rains experienced all over Cyprus in recent days have destroyed the anti-flooding works around the church,” the council said in a written statement.

“Specifically, part of the wall which was rebuilt to protect the 12 th century church has collapsed, causing the structure to flood once more”.
