Anastasiades signs book of condolence for “dedicated European leader” Sassoli

President Nicos Anastasiades signed on Tuesday the book of condolence opened at the European Parliament’s Office in Cyprus for the death of the President of the European Parliament David Sassoli, “a dedicated European leader and a man of vision and principles”.

In his message, President Anastasiades wrote that “on behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Cyprus, I wish to express my heartfelt condolences for the premature passing of the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli.”

He further noted that, “I have had the privilege of getting to know and working with David Sassoli and I will always remember him as an outstanding President, a dedicated European leader and a man of vision and principles, who has never shied away from working tirelessly for a democratic, united, efficient and resilient European Union.”

Cyprus and Europe have lost a good friend, the President wrote and added that “our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, as well as with the people of his native Italy. Addio carissimo Presidente e Amico.»

In statements to the Press, President Anastasiades also commented that “the late President of the European Parliament, Mr Sassoli, was a European visionary, a true defender of democracy and human rights, and left his mark as President of the European Parliament. I am sure that his entire career is a source of inspiration for every European citizen, and for every citizen who respects democratic principles and values.”
