Yellow weather warning for very low temperatures

The met office issued a yellow warning for extremely low temperatures on Wednesday afternoon, which are expected to fall to -9C overnight in Troodos.

The warning is valid from 10pm on Wednesday night to 8am Thursday morning.

Temperatures across the island are below normal for this time of the year, according to the met office.

Wednesday saw the temperature falling to 2C inland during the day, between 5C and 8C on the coast and -6C in the mountains.

The latest update said the temperature in the highest point of Troodos is expected to fall to -9C overnight.

Temperatures are expected to return to normal levels on Thursday, Friday and Saturday but could drop again on Sunday and Monday.

Snow was 39cm in Troodos on Wednesday afternoon.
