The department of fisheries and marine research on Thursday said it confiscated 94 kilos of fish after an operation against illegal fishing at Governor’s beach.
According to the department’s announcement, four individuals were found fishing with a net without a vessel and without a relevant fishing licence. They were also using a speargun, and had caught more than the maximum limit of five kilos of fish in 24 hours.
All fishing gear as well as the catch, weighing a total of 94kilos were seized as evidence, the announcement said.
The department “has made it a priority to combat illegal fishing and will apply the relevant law with due rigour,” it was added.
