Limassol police reported nearly 500 traffic offences in just 12 hours on Friday as officers stepped up efforts to make the roads safer.

According to an announcement, from 6.00 am to 6.00 pm on Friday, 37 drivers were booked for speeding and 102 people for not wearing a seat belt. Moreover, 63 drivers were caught using their mobile phone, 23 did not have an MOT, 43 drivers did not road tax and 100 drivers were booked for incorrect use of the tachograph. In seven cases, the vehicles had either been removed from the register or had been declared as immobilized. There were another 112 bookings for other traffic violations, police added.
