Woman caught driving five times over limit

A 43-year-old woman was caught driving while five times over the maximum alcohol limit, Famagusta district police said on Friday.

Officers stopped the car of the woman for a check on Protaras avenue in Paralimni on Thursday evening.

She was given a preliminary alcohol test which showed 145μg instead of 22μg, which is the maximum alcohol blood limit.

The woman was then taken to the district’s traffic police unit where she underwent a second alcohol test with a final reading of 115μg instead of 22μg.

Police said she was charged in writing and then released pending a court hearing.
