UClan Cyprus and the University of Balamand will jointly open a medical school in Larnaca district.

The two academic institutions signed a letter of intent on Thursday, Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras said on his Facebook page. The news was also reported by the two universities on Twitter.

The University of Balamand is one of the biggest, and second in rank, universities in Lebanon and in the Arabic world more generally, and has a high-quality medical school, he said.

According to Vyras, “the cooperation between these two institutions in the field of medical science and on developing a new medical school based in Larnaca district will be beneficial to Cyprus, Larnaca and to the universities themselves.”

And he concluded that “my presence during the signing of this very important agreement conveys the message that Larnaca will embrace and support this effort in every possible way.”
