Authorities were alerted after a dead baby was found in the capital Nicosia’s old town on Sunday evening.

According to CyBC, the baby was discovered inside a bag in the public toilets at Solomou Square.

Police rushed to the scene and blocked off the area for further investigation.

Medical examiners Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou were also summoned to the scene.

Authorities have also started investigations to verify whether a woman has been transported to hospital or a medical clinic with signs of heavy bleeding in the last 24 hours, the report stated.
