Man fined €42,000 after 120kg of duty-free tobacco

A 43-year-old man found in possession of about 120kg of duty-free tobacco has been fined €42,000.

Police said that officers had stopped a car driven by the 43-year-old resident of Larnaca on Sunday night, and during a search of the vehicle, discovered 2,408 sachets of 50g, totalling about 120 kg, of duty-free tobacco.

The 43-year-old was issued an out of court fine of €42,000 euros by the Customs Department.
