Two individuals, aged 41 and 27, were remanded for two days on Tuesday for conspiracy to commit a crime and attempted theft, illegal possession of property, traffic violations, and driving under the influence of drugs.

A spokesman for the Paphos police said that, on Monday afternoon, police received information that a woman had attempted to steal from a parked car in Emba. She was spotted by a bystander, but approached, she got out of her vehicle with a man and fled.

Paphos police went to scene where they located the man who had accompanied her. The man, a 41-year-old who is known to police, named the woman who had been with him. The 27-year-old woman has also previously come to the notice of the police.

Warrants were issued for the 41-year-old and the 27-year-old, for the offences of conspiracy to commit a crime and attempted theft. Police arrested the 41-year-old Monday night and after questioning, he was placed in custody.

Paphos police also located the vehicle involved in the incident in Emba and signalled the driver to stop, upon which she sped off, committed various traffic offences, and collided with two cars and a truck. She was eventually stopped on a dirt road in the village of Koili, identified as the 27-year-old suspect.

A search of her vehicle turned up a briefcase containing two telephones and a bank card, for the possession of which she did not have satisfactory explanation, and she was arrested for illegal possession of property.

In a preliminary drug test, the woman tested positive and gave a second sample which was sent to the state chemist for analysis.

The case in under ongoing investigation.
