Two people were arrested in Larnaca late Monday night after being spotted moving suspiciously by members of a police patrol.

According to police statement, the two individuals were seen with a suitcase boarding a car. Police stopped the car in question, and determined the travellers were two 20-year-old asylum seekers and a 30-year-old woman whose arrival had not been registered at an approved port of entry.

According to a statement by the 30-year-old, she had arrived in Cyprus by ship three days prior and lived in the north, while yesterday she met the two 20-year-olds, and asked them to transfer her to the south to seek asylum, giving them all the money she had in her possession.

The two 20-year-olds were arrested for aiding and abetting illegal entry, stay or transit through the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, and were detained.

Larnaca police is continuing investigations.
