Greek music stars all set to perform in Nicosia

As with every summer, beloved musicians from Greece are set to travel to the island for a series of open-air concerts. As the events world returns to normal, Greek singers return to Nicosia and Limassol this year, starting early with some concerts in April.

One of the most popular pop singers of Greece is to perform in Nicosia this month with an upcoming gig at RED Music Stage on April 29. Panos Mouzourakis and his band will bring uplifting tunes, ballads and dance hits as well as some of Mouzourakis’ classics and new songs. A day later, the singer will travel to Limassol to perform at Rialto Theatre.

Live concerts begin in May with a performance by Onirama on May 7. The five-piece band was originally scheduled to perform at RED on March 25 yet was postponed due to high Covid cases. Now, they head to the capital to put on a lively, entertaining show.

Towards the end of May and lasting for the whole summer, RED will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a series of concerts. These, welcoming well-known Greek and Cypriot musicians, will take place at Skali Aglantzias with a bar that will be open early on selling drinks and snacks. Also at the same venue, each concert will host the Magic Boxes of the numerous artists that have performed at RED throughout the years. The wooden boxes will include favourite personal items from the artists which will be up for sale. All of the proceeds raised will be donated to the Pancyprian Organization of People with Kidney Disorders and IRIS, Association Against Sexual Violence.

Kickstarting the summer concert series is Natassa Mbofiliou with a performance on May 27. Joined by Themis Karamouratides and Gerasimos Evangelatos, the three artists will put on a memorable show filled with Greek songs.

Come June and Rena Morfi will perform twice on the island. First, as part of RED’s concerts at Skali on June 1 and then at Limassol’ Vinylio Wine Etc Bar on June 2. Her concert at Skali is a charity concert co-organised with Round Table 1 Nicosia with all of the ticket sales being donated to the Karaiskakio Foundation. Rena’s Limassol gig restarts the Vinylio Summer Party series. After a three-year break, the series resumes with the Greek singer joined on stage by her band and two local musicians.

On June 7, Mariza Rizou will take the stage at Skali with a five-piece band for an evening of summer songs. The final concert scheduled for June, for the time being, welcomes Phoivos Delivorias at Skali along with his fellow musicians who will travel to the island after a series of gigs in Athens and Thessaloniki. Also accompanying him on June 16 are jazzy Nefeli Fasouli and hip-hop artist Demetris Mentzelos. Songs from Phoivos’ new album will sound in the evening along with his all-time classics for an improv summer party concert. Plenty more concerts, festivals and music events are to follow this summer and it seems that, fingers crossed, this is just the beginning.
