Coronavirus: Over 900 receive fourth dose on Tuesday

Over 8,200 people have received the fourth vaccine dose against Covid-19 while more than 900 vaccinations were carried out after its rollout for people aged 60 and older on Tuesday, the health ministry said on Wednesday.

The fourth jab, or second booster shot, became available for people over 70, those living and working in nursing homes and other 24/7 facilities as well as for immunocompromised or immunosuppressed patients as of March 30.

Since then, some 8,211 people were vaccinated, health ministry spokesman Constantinos Athanasiou told the Cyprus News Agency.

Meanwhile, another 911 people were vaccinated on Tuesday after the fourth dose became available for people aged 60 and older.

The second booster is administered provided five months have elapsed since the third dose was administered.

A total of 74.1 per cent of the general population has been fully vaccinated to date, Athanasiou said.

Regarding the epidemiological picture, the spokesman said there has been a decrease in coronavirus cases as well as in the hospitalisations of patients with Covid-19.
