A total of 12,553 people have received the fourth (booster) shot against Covid-19, and vaccinations are continuing daily at centres in all districts, acting head of nursing services Evagoras Tambouris told the Cyprus News Agency on Thursday.

The fourth shot is available for people aged over 60 as well as specific health groups.

Overall, 86.7 per cent of Cyprus’ adult population has been fully vaccinated, he said. Specifically, 667,253 have received the first shot, 644,117 the second and 471,093 the third (booster).

Among children aged 5 to 11, a total of 10.8 per cent have received at least one shot. Among children aged 12 to 15 the corresponding figure is 51.2 per cent and among 16 to 17- year- olds, 61.2 per cent.

Tambouris says Cyprus has adequate stocks of vaccines and was expecting new deliveries of Pfizer vaccines in the summer.

Asked whether preparations were being made for autumn, when mass vaccinations are expected of the general population, he replied: “We have vaccination centres in all districts that can cater for a large number of people a day, while nursing staff from hospitals could be assigned overtime work.”
