In line with the rest of Europe, the Cypriot vote in Saturday night’s Eurovision song contest, diverged between jury and public voting.

Overall, Ukraine was in fourth place based on jury voting but claimed victory with a record tally in viewer voting across Europe to win the contest.

Cyprus, long known for giving its 12 votes to Greece and vice versa irrespective, which never fails to draw boos from Eurovision audiences, this year saw a divergence between the jury vote and the public vote.

In the jury vote, the Cypriot judging panel gave its 12 votes to Greece, 10 to Azerbaijan, 8 to Australia, and 7 to Ukraine but in the public voting, Ukraine received the 12 points and Greece 10.

When combined, the total still went to Greece with 22 points to Ukraine’s 19. Greece came in 8th overall.

Interestingly, while Azerbaijan received 10 points from the Cypriot jury, it did not rate among the Cypriot public at all.
