Rapist gets four years

A 24-year-old man was sentenced to four years in jail on Tuesday after he was found guilty of raping a woman in the sea in Ayia Napa.

The Larnaca-Famagusta district sentenced the man during a closed-door hearing to protect the identity of the victim.

According to the facts of the case, the man met the woman at a bar in Ayia Napa over the summer last year. She was drunk and later lost consciousness.

Then, he took her to a coastal area of Ayia Napa and carried her into the sea where he raped her.
