Nicosia man arrested in child porn investigation

A new case of child pornography is being investigated by the police after the arrest of a 42-year-old man on Friday to facilitate investigations.

The suspect was subsequently presented before the Nicosia district court, which issued a four-day detention order against him.

Police received information from Europol that a user of a specific account uploaded a number of video files with material of sexual abuse of minors on the internet.

According to a police statement, upon receipt of the information and after examinations by the Cybercrime unit, evidence against a 42-year-old resident of Nicosia was secured.

A warrant for his arrest as well as a search warrant for his home was issued.

A police seized a mobile phone and two computers for forensic examination during a search of his home.

The cybercrime branch is investigating the case.
