Larnaca police arrest man, 25, in rampage of burglaries and theft

A 25-year-old man from the Larnaca district, was arrested to facilitate police investigations in connection with a string of burglaries and thefts

A 25-year-old man from the Larnaca district, was arrested to facilitate police investigations in connection with a string of burglaries, thefts and malicious damage.

“At around 3.30 in the morning of Saturday, June 4, the owner of a barbershop in Larnaca district, reported that 20 minutes earlier, unknown persons using a van-type vehicle, after breaking the side glass door of his outhouse, entered it and stole a radio. A vehicle registration certificate was taken from the scene as evidence,” police said.

Meanwhile, a kiosk owner in the Larnaca district reported that around 3.30 am on Saturday morning, the alarm of his kiosk sounded.

According to the police report, when the kiosk owner went to the scene to ascertain what was happening, he noticed a van-type car leaving the scene at breakneck speed, while the main entrance of the kiosk had been smashed, but nothing was stolen.

In addition, at around 7.15am on Saturday morning, a field owner in Larnaca reported that he spotted an unidentified pick-up truck in the middle of his field, as well as his van, immobilised in mud and tied together with some towing cable.

According to the complaint, the truck was immobilised elsewhere in the field, while it was discovered that the pick-up truck had been reported stolen on June 3 from a house in Larnaca.

The complainant also told the police that extensive damage was caused to his crop, while two batteries were removed from the truck.

Police officers who arrived at the scene and searched the vehicle found a bumbag in the front seat of the truck, which contained an identity card, a hooded jacket and other items, a small amount of cannabis and a pair of iron cutting scissors.

Also found in the truck was a mobile phone, which was later found to belong to a young man aged 25.

Meanwhile, at around 8am on Saturday morning, the owner of a car in the Larnaca district reported that someone had broken the passenger window of his car, which was parked in his drive, and stole various vehicle documents from it.

Still at around 10.45am also on Saturday morning, a Larnaca district resident reported to the police that someone had stolen his company vehicle, which was parked on the drive.

The vehicle was subsequently found immobilised in an area of Larnaca.

The 25-year-old is expected to be brought before Larnaca district court later on Sunday for a detention order.

The police continues its investigations.
