Turkish foreign minister to visit Lapithos this weekend

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusolu will visit the north his weekend with the occupied village of Lapithos reportedly the focus of his trip.

According to Turkish Cypriot newspaper Kıbrıs Postası, the municipality of Lapithos has issued a poster urging people to attend an event that will take place there on Sunday in the presence of Cavusoglu.

Cavusoglu will meet ‘government’ officials and civil society organisations.

The visit is part of a strategy to deal with the negative reactions to the economic protocol recently signed between Turkey and the north.

A delegation from Turkey arrived in the occupied areas on Thursday to discuss issues related to the protocol.
