The 46 police candidates, who failed the exams to join the force, demonstrated for a third time outside the presidential palace on Tuesday morning.
The candidates claim that the principle of equal treatment as enshrined in Art. 28.1 of the Republic’s constitution was violated and they had been unfairly treated.
They claimed the psychometric exam on cognitive skills was wholly unreliable as it was illogical for candidates who passed the first exam, some with flying colors, to be cut in the second. They also argued that it was unfair to base the pass mark on the average of the overall scoring rather than a pre-set mark.
Many of the failed candidates complained that because of their age they would not be able to apply for a police job again. Others claimed they had quit their jobs in view of their expected appointment to the police force.
The 46 candidates prepared a resolution calling on the president of the republic to intervene and order the Chief of Police to accept their proposal of abolishing psychometric tests.
Akel duputies Christos Christofides and Andreas Pashiourtides and Disy’s MP Giorgos Karoullas also attended the demo.
