A 50-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Thursday for allegedly aiding the illegal entry into the Republic of ten migrants.

A police statement said that on Wednesday afternoon a boat was spotted off the coast of Cavo Greco in the Famagusta district. A coast guard patrol was immediately dispatched, and officers found the illegal migrants and the 50-year-old on the boat.

An arrest warrant was immediately issued against the man and the migrants were transferred to a temporary accommodation facility.

The man is expected to be brought before the Famagusta district court on Thursday and to be remanded.
