A 35-year-old man was remanded for eight days on Tuesday by the Larnaca district court following his arrest the previous day to facilitate a police investigation into aiding and abetting illegal entry into the Republic.

According to a police statement, the man was stopped for a check by officers in Pyla at 3.30pm.

With him in the vehicle there were other five people, who police found out had illegally made their way into the Republic after paying the 35-year-old man an unknown sum.

The man was then arrested for aiding and abetting illegal entry, stay or transit through the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, and was taken into custody, before being remanded on Tuesday.

The five people with him in the car were taken to Pournara reception centre for asylum seekers and migrants.
