Votive candle causes fire in Limassol residence

A lit votive candle was the cause of a fire in a house in Agia Fyla, Limassol on Monday. No one was inside the structure at the time the fire started.

According to a statement by the fire department around 10 am a call was received for a fire in a room which served as extension of the house terrace and was used as a kitchen and laundry room.

Members of the police and the fire service responded with two staffed fire trucks and the fire was brought under control within half an hour. The fire resulted in extensive damage to the room and its contents.

Another fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday in two vehicles in the Nicosia district of Anthoupolis. Members of the Lakatameia police and the fire service responded with two staffed fire trucks and the fire was brought under control soon after.

The fire and heat caused extensive damage to both vehicles, as well as the metal canopy under which they were parked. An investigation into the causes of the fire is underway.

In total, between 6 am Monday and 6 am Tuesday morning, the fire department responded to 47 calls for help, 27 fires, 19 special services and one fake call.
