A 42-year-old man has been jailed for two years after the Paphos district court found him guilty of causing a fatal hit-and-run which took place in 2017.

The court case took five years as the man pleaded not guilty to the charges, local media reported on Wednesday.

The incident took place in the Panayias Pantanassas area of Paphos when the then 37-year-old driver – under unknown circumstances – crashed into a 76-year-old pedestrian.

The driver subsequently fled the scene without offering any assistance, leaving the victim who sustained serious injuries to which he later succumbed.
