EU Commissioner goes walkabout in Nicosia, views projects

The Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira on Saturday visited various parts of Nicosia municipality accompanies by the capital’s mayor Constantinos Yiorkadjis who gave a short presentation at the town hall on the various projects carried out and those underway in the city.

The projects were those that utilised EU funding with the aim of upgrading and revitalising the urban environment and attracting new investments. From the roof of the town hall she had the opportunity to see the city skyline and the Green Line, the municipality said in an announcement.

“The Commissioner took a particular interest in the history and cultural heritage of the city, recognising its specific characteristics and the need to strengthen the effort to revitalise it,” it added.

Ferreira, the mayor and other officials also visited the old municipal market, the creative business district on Aeschylou, Lefkonos and Trikoupi streets, Eleftheria Square, the project for the redevelopment of the commercial triangle (Makarios and Stasikratous), and  Elpinikis Street to see the Gardens of the Future project.
