Ninety-eight appointments were made at on-duty clinics island-wide, during their first weekend of operation said the health ministry.

On Saturday 93 calls were made to on-duty clinics island-wide, with 37 appointments for personal doctors and 21 for paediatricians being arranged.

On Sunday, there were 28 appointments for personal doctors and 12 for paediatricians were also processed.

Most cases involved patients with a temperature or suffering from gastroenteritis and tonsillitis.

There were also cases of patients with coronavirus, who were unable to contact their personal doctor and called the duty clinics for advice.

If a patient needs to see a doctor on weekends or public holidays, they should contact their personal doctor for a referral. If the personal doctor is not available, they can call the health ministry’s call centre, which can refer them by phone to an on-duty centre.

A nurse will then evaluate each patient’s condition to ascertain whether they can get a same-day appointment at the centre or whether they need to visit a hospital A&E for emergency medical attention. Opening hours are Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Sundays and public holidays from 3pm to 7pm.
