A masterclass on the verbal communication of creative, research and educational projects in the field of dance and the body is arriving this autumn at Dance House Lefkosia and an early bird discount is available until the end of July. Titled Do You Speak Dance?, the four-day masterclass focuses on performer Christos Polymenakos’ body/word and performance writing method which he will share with participants.

Addressed to professionals, students and amateurs of wider fields of dance and the body being choreographers, dramaturgs, researchers, performers, arts managers, performance artists, mental health professionals, physical education trainers and writers, the masterclass aims to offer useful material to all. Beyond that, the workshop is also accessible to people with movement disabilities, following an arrangement with the organisers.

From October 4 to 8, Christos will touch on the ways the body and the art of dance are translated into words when addressing different audiences, during the different stages of a project’s development. Do You Speak Dance? is based on an original template for dramaturgical analysis, practical and theoretical tools of the method. It has been developed through theoretical and practical research in the fields of dance dramaturgy and creation since 2000. Moreover, it has been presented at the Kalamata International Dance Festival and Dance House Lefkosia and this autumn it hopes to welcome more participants.

Those interested in attending should send a biographical note and a brief response to the question, ‘What brings me to this workshop?’ to [email protected] with subject Do you speak dance?
