Picture this. You are somewhere in the valleys of Paphos, away from city noise and lights, Mongolian-style yurts on one side, a stretch of land on the other and a colourful Latin fiesta bursting in front of you. Sounds exciting? It is exactly what is happening at the Yurts in Cyprus this month as it organises its annual Latin party with live bands and lots of open space to dance.
Every summer, the yurts in Sarama valley, Paphos host a one-day festival welcoming musicians, visitors and music enthusiasts for a unique experience. This July 30, the party returns and joining it are three bands and 27 musicians.
The fun begins a few hours before sunset as the doors open at 6.30pm. In the large outdoor area, fiesta goers will be able to enjoy live music and dance while indulging in light meals and some drinks. Three local bands, all well-known around the island for their explosive, colourful and upbeat music, will take the stage. Macumba, Yemaya Son and percussion band Batukinio will bring lively entertainment with the sounds of Latin jazz, world music, Cuban rhythms and Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian beats.
Besides offering a music component, the annual event also has an eco-friendly approach by being plastic free. That means no bottled water will be sold and no single-use bottles will be allowed. Take water flasks to refill for free and reusable cups.
A few other reminders the organisers share with party-goers are to keep friendly dogs on leashes, to ditch high heels and come in comfortable shoes and bring any deck chairs or cushions to lounge back and enjoy the music.
