A 79-year-old woman died on Tuesday at midnight as a result of a car crash on the Kantou-Omodos road, near the village of Souni.

The woman’s husband was driving when, for reasons yet to be discovered, he lost control of the vehicle, which overturned after hitting the guard rail and ended up in a ditch.

Police officers and firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after where they managed to free the woman and the man from the car. However, the 79-year-old’s conditions appeared very serious and she was rushed to the Limassol general hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The husband was also taken to hospital. He is out of danger, having only sustained minor injuries. He was not intoxicated, tests carried out after the crash revealed.
