The private schools teachers association on Sunday called for the decision to dismiss three teachers at the English School be revoked.

“The management of the English School, once again, has taken an unacceptable decision regarding the three fellow trade unionists, where with various pseudo-claims they proceed to dismissals in the midst of the summer holidays,” the Committee for the Struggle of Private Education Teachers said in a statement.

The group condemns the decision and calls for it to be revoked immediately, it said.

In addition, it urged all colleagues, both from the public and private sectors, as well as all workers in Cyprus to attend a protest event scheduled for Monday, July 25, at 8.15am outside the Presidential Palace, to support the three colleagues and the school union.

“With all these developments at the English School, but also with what is happening overall in the private education sector (intensification of work, salary reductions and deterioration of working conditions, authoritarian decisions and treatment of staff), it appears to be the necessary duty of all of us to demonstrate mutual understanding and coordination throughout the industry”, it concluded.
