World conference of overseas Cypriots kicks off in Nicosia

The world conference of overseas Cypriots begins on Tuesday evening in Nicosia, with the physical presence of delegates.

Among the topics of discussion will be the Cyprus problem, energy, security, the humanitarian issue of missing persons and issues faced by the diaspora.

President Nicos Anastasiades, will be represented at the opening ceremony at Nicosia Municipal Theatre, by interior minister, Nicos Nouris.

According to an official press release, Presidential Commissioner Fotis Fotiou, President of the House of Representatives Annita Demetriou, Archbishop Chrysostomos II, and Greece’s deputy minister of education, Zetta M. Makri, will address the ceremony. Heads of various overseas Cypriot delegations and youth will also address attendees.

In his statement marking the start of the conference, Commissioner Fotiou said in recent years efforts towards resolving the Cyprus problem have been stepped up, especially in the USA and the UK, and that the role of overseas Cypriots in decision-making centres is of great importance.

The Conference, which kicks off at 7pm Tuesday in Nicosia is set to conclude on Friday, 29th July 2022 and will be held at St Raphael Resort, in Limassol.
