Welcoming August with music

It is the summer of music, events, beach-lounging and all usual hot-weather activities. Now that the cultural agenda has somewhat returned to its pre-pandemic level, there is plenty to choose from to fill up those hot summer evenings. Theatre productions are touring the island along with concerts while the annual festivals make their comeback. Welcoming another month of events, though slower than usual as the August holidays kick in, is a series of live music nights.

At Ravens Music Hall in Limassol, two bands will take the stage on August 2. Private Garden is a rock trio formed in Cyprus in 2019 that plays a blend of garage and grunge rock with dominating heavy riffs, bluesy vocals and beefy drum grooves. The second band of the evening is Joakem which delivers a progressive rock/metal punch of complex melodies and time signatures, heavy synth sounds and aggressive guitars.

Over in Larnaca at the Tudor Inn Bar, two local musicians will be jazzy-fying some Greek classics. On August 3, vocalist Katerina Andreou and pianist Loukas Louka will transform popular Greek songs into jazzy tunes, starting at 9pm.

Continuing the jazzy mood is another live set in Nicosia. Evergreen Vegan & Vegetarian will welcome the trio Ronja Burve, Antreas Yerolatsitis and Christos Yerolatsitis on August 4 to perform jazz tunes. The trio has been performing together for the last six years in various locations and setups and in the first week of August they return to entertain Nicosia crowds.
