August events to slow down

August is a month of relaxation. It is the time to unwind and rest as businesses go on holiday. The whole island seems to enter a sleepy state except for coastal venues which are bursting with life. In between all of the wining and dining, beaching and exploring arrive a few events to aid with that slowing down mood.

Possibly the best way to clear the mind is by spending time in nature and so, The Yogi Turtle is organising a weekend camping getaway in the mountains. The Balance and Reconnect in Nature weekend on Saturday and Sunday is a chance to slow down and connect within. The camping trip won’t be an ordinary mountain get-together, however, as a series of workshops will also take place by facilitators Veatriki, Christos and Christy. Breathwork sessions, yoga, meditation, chakra dance, and creative and connecting exercises will fill the weekend to immerse campers totally in their surroundings.

Activities will begin at 10am on August 20 and end at 2pm on August 21 at Moniatis Camping site and the €120 participation fee includes access to all workshops, camping space and the use of facilities such as toilets, showers and an outdoor kitchen.

A few days later, another event hopes to bring moments of peace and relaxation through sound healing. Dora Yoga Art is organising an evening event in Paphos on August 23, guiding participants through a sound bath meditation. This deeply-immersive listening experience uses sounds such as singing bowls, koshi wind chimes and vocals to heal and calm down both mind and body. The session lasts just one hour, led by yoga teacher Dora and costs €13. And if you enjoy the experience, plenty more similar events will happen throughout the summer as the Sound Healing – A Journey Inwards takes place every Tuesday.

Also coming up in Paphos within the same week is a guided yoga practice on the beach. Yoga O’Clock invites yogis to gather at Sandy Beach for a sunset yoga session starting at 6.45pm. The class will do an Indian hatha yoga practice that is suitable for all levels and will end with ayurvedic tea. And if you can’t get enough of the beachy sunset colours and slow flow, return the next Thursday as the yoga gathering takes place almost weekly.
