Sarah’s Jazz Club opens for season 6

Nicosia’s favourite jazz venue re-opens this week after a summer break and it has a weekend full of performances in store. To mark its sixth season of concerts, jam sessions and events, the opening show welcomes the founder’s musical ensemble. Sarah’s Jazz Band will take the stage first this week, fronting the woman behind the club – Sarah Fenwick. To complete the weekend’s celebrations, a quintet and a duo of local musicians will bring jazzy tunes to the old town once again.

As the live music club opens on Friday, Sarah Fenwick, Marios Charalambous, Aris Constantinou, Costas Challoumas and Marios Spyrou will perform classic swing jazz. With an 8.30pm start, guests will also be able to indulge in cocktails, selected wines and the Jazz Platter to accompany the live music and celebrate the season opening.

On Saturday another group of local musicians will entertain jazz-loving audiences. The Marios Charalambous Quintet will present original compositions in a modern jazz style, influenced by the modal period and artists such as John Coltrane, Kenny Garrett, Ben Wendel and others. Bringing them to life on stage will be Marios Charalambous on the saxophone, Ermis Michail on guitar, Andreas Panteli on piano, Kyriacos Kesta on double bass and Omiros Miltiadous on drums.

The week will conclude with a duo singing swing and songs of autumn. Vocalist Charlotte Storer and pianist Dimitris Miaris’ performance aims to welcome the new autumn season and slowly wave goodbye to the summer. The pair will perform a selection of Jazz standards from The Great American Songbook and Jazz Era on Sunday that celebrate September. Here’s to a new month, a new season and a new cycle of musical gatherings!
