Personal differences and insults appear to be the reason behind the arson of the boat in Emba, police have said.

According to Paphos police crime investigations unit officer Michalis Nicholaou, a 23-year-old man was arrested after confessing to the torching the boat.

According to NIcholaou, at around 2am on August 23, a fire broke out on a boat parked in a field in Emba, belonging to a 57-year-old.

Police then arrived on scene to investigate as fire fighters extinguished the flames.

Subsequent investigation showed extensive damages and that the fire was set maliciously.

In addition, evidence against the 23-year-old suspect emerged who was arrested on August 26 pending a court warrant.

During questioning the 23-year-old confessed to the offence and will be taken to Paphos court later on Friday.
