Nicosia and Larnaca fire departments responded to multiple calls for help on Tuesday because of the intense weather phenomena.

Nicosia fire departments responded to ten calls concerning falling trees, overhead cables, and other dangerous objects after strong winds hit some areas.

In one case, a fire broke out on a palm tree in the yard of a residence in Anthoupolis after a sparking electricity cable fell to the ground.

Three teams from Nicosia fire departments responded in extinguishing the fire.

“Support Cy” volunteer group also responded.

Nicosia district areas affected include Anthoupolis, Deftera, Psimolofou, Pera Orinis, Episkopio and Tseri.

In Larnaca, four teams from the local fire departments responded to another ten calls for help because of the intense weather.

The department said it responded to calls concerning falling trees and other dangerous objects, falling overhead cables, towing immobilised vehicles, pumping water from basements, and opening rainwater wells.

In total, four teams from the Larnaca and Oroklini fire stations operated while there was a partial recall of off-duty personnel as well.

Teams from Larnaca municipality also aided the departments operations, the announcement notes.
