Classic hard rock legend Uriah Heep will soon perform in Cyprus. As the UK band celebrates its 50th anniversary it travels to the island to perform a concert in Limassol on September 20 and another in Nicosia on September 22. Songs iconic to the band’s sound such as Easy Living, July Morning, The Wizard and The Lady in Black will fill Pattihio and Strovolos theatres.

The concerts will span the band’s 50 year-career including clips from the iconic moments of the band’s history, projections of all the birthday wishes from a plethora of rock glitterati as well as photos of every ex-member of the band. Indeed, several musicians have been part of the English rock band and currently the line-up consists of lead and rhythm guitarist Mick Box, keyboardist Phil Lanzon, lead vocalist Bernie Shaw, drummer Russell Gilbrook and bassist Dave Rimmer.

“Along with the iconic Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, Uriah Heep played a significant role in the development of classic hard rock,” say the concert organisers. “The band’s debut album Very ’Eavy, Very ’Umble heralded the emergence of a new movement that would reign in the 70s and only strengthen its position in the 80s.”

Songs such as Gypsy, Bird of Prey and Walking in Your Shadow kickstarted the 50-year history of the band, and led them to the upcoming tour. During their career, Uriah Heep have released countless studio and live albums, sold over 45 million records worldwide, and played over 4,000 epic concerts in 60 countries. “Such dedication to art, unchanging style and enthusiasm secured the band’s status as founders of hard rock and allowed their music to perpetuate in the hearts of loyal rock fans of the 70s,” add the organisers.

“The point of all this is that even now, 50 years after the band’s inception, the sun seems to be shining on Uriah Heep. If there’s another band born in 1969 that has stayed as engaged with their fans as Heep, all power to them. But for leader of the band Box, music has never been a competition – him and the band will keep spreading their many messages of positivity all over the world and gaining new fans along the way. Their songs and music have stood the test of time, and with even more new songs on the horizon the mighty Heep are as strong and powerful as ever.”

Their Cyprus concepts this September will include acoustic and electric sets celebrating classic songs from the past five decades.
