An 18-year-old man has been remanded in connection with an armed robbery that took place three months ago, Paphos police said on Saturday.

The man was arrested on Thursday afternoon as one of two suspects who broke into the house of a 72-year-old man in a village in Paphos district at around 3am on June 12.

The pensioner reported that burglars broke into his bedroom and threatening him with a pistol, stole €9,300 in cash, several watches and his wallet containing various documents.

The wife of the pensioner, who was also at home, went into the bedroom after hearing noises, and saw the burglars before they fled.

Following police investigations, officers concluded the thieves entered the house through a door that was closed but unlocked. They also found the complainant’s wallet about a kilometre away from the crime scene, on the side of the road.

During investigations, evidence emerged against the young man, and an arrest warrant was issued on Monday. The suspect was arrested earlier this week and remanded on Friday.
