Nurses to demonstrate for better neonatal unit

Nurses union Pasyno on Wednesday announced a protest outside parliament on Thursday morning to protest ongoing problems faced by the neonatal unit at Makarios hospital as deputies are set to discuss the issue.

The discussion is to focus on the need for renovation and expansion of the unit.

Pasyno said members would participate in the protest in their free time so that patients are not inconvenienced.

“The purpose of the event is to highlight once again the problems of understaffing in the unit which, despite assurances, have not been resolved. We do not wish to affect the work of the unit but to exert pressure to resolve problems concerning this vital service for newborns,” a statement said.
