Coronavirus: two deaths and 2,932 new cases seen in last week

Two deaths from Covid in addition to 2,932 new cases were reported in the past week, the ministry of health announced on Friday.

The two deaths refer to a 76-year-old woman who died last Friday and a 70-year-old man who died on Monday.

They bring the total number of deaths on the island from Covid to 1,180.

A total of 66,616 tests were carried out which found the 2,932 new cases, giving a positivity rate of 4.4 per cent.

These bring to 585,313 the total number of cases identified on the island so far.

Contact tracing saw two tests carried out, neither of which was positive.

A total of 4,834 tests carried out in care homes found 21 new cases.

Meanwhile in closed facilities 3,092 tests were carried out and five new cases found.

Meanwhile 51 patients with the virus are being treated in state hospitals, one of whom is in a serious condition in the increased dependency unit.

Four patients who no longer test positive remain intubated in intensive care after being admitted with Covid.
