Boy, 15, critical after traffic accident in Limassol

A 15-year-old boy is in critical condition at the Nicosia general hospital after a traffic collision in Limassol on Friday night, police said.

The circumstances of the accident are being investigated after the teen, who was on a motorcycle riding along Melina Mercouri Street collided with a car driven by a 37-year-old man.

The boy was taken by ambulance to Limassol hospital where he was diagnosed with a ruptured aorta and had internal bleeding. He had also suffered fractured vertebrae and femur.

Due to the severity of his injuries, the teen was intubated and transferred to Nicosia where he is in an extremely critical condition.

An arrest warrant was issued against the driver of the car, who was taken into custody.

He was tested for driving under the influence of alcohol and was found to be twice the legal limit with a reading of 47μg instead of up to 22μg which is the permissible level. He also underwent a test for driving under the influence of drugs but was negative.
