Motorcyclist, 21, killed in Larnaca

A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed late Saturday in the Larnaca district when he lost control of his vehicle and was thrown several metres in the air, ending up in the yard of a house.

At around 10pm, Giorgos Sophocleous from Zygi was riding on Stavrodromiou Street in Kalavasos, under circumstances that are being investigated, deviated from his course, hit a concrete embankment then the metal fence of a house.

The bike came to a sudden halt when it hit a tree and Sophocleous was thrown from the vehicle into the front yard of an adjacent house.

He was taken to Larnaca hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The motorcycle caught fire after the impact and was completely destroyed.

Police are seeking witnesses to the accident. Anyone with information should call Larnaca traffic police, the citizen’s hotline 1460 or their nearest police station.
