Man remanded in connection with attempted murder

Paphos District Court

A 27-year-old man was remanded for eight days by the Paphos district court on Wednesday after he allegedly attempted to murder another man, aged 36, in the early hours of Tuesday.

After receiving calls regarding the incident, police officers rushed to the 36-year-old man’s house, finding him seriously injured.

He was taken to hospital and later transferred to Nicosia general where he remains in critical condition. He underwent surgery on Tuesday, where doctors treated a fractured skull and damaged blood vessel in the brain.

After carrying out an investigation at the injured man’s home, police found incriminating evidence against the 27-year-old.

According to Paphos police spokesperson Michalis Nicolaou, officers secured testimony against the man, who is a permanent resident of Cyprus.

He was arrested on Tuesday and remanded on Wednesday.

According to a statement released by the police, it appears that a group of unknown people broke into the 36-year-old man’s apartment located in the centre of Paphos at 1.30am on Tuesday.

They then beat him, causing him the severe injuries he is currently being treated for.
