President Nicos Anastasiades will be returning to Cyprus from Alicante, Spain on Thursday night, following the cancellation of the EUMed-9 Summit over the health of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
The bloc was set to discuss their autonomy and the ongoing energy crisis.
A statement from the presidential palace said that a new date would be set for the conference, and that Anastasiades would attend the cabinet in Cyprus meeting on Friday.
Earlier, government spokesman Marios Pelekanos told reporters that the nine nations were meant to discuss the energy issue, which has deep significance for the Eastern Mediterranean, considering area’s the gas deposits.
The ‘Med Group’, comprised of Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain, was informally established in 2013.
