A 34-year-old man, who was staying illegally in the Republic, was arrested for carrying a knife at a football match at GSP stadium in Latsia, police said on Saturday.

The man was arrested following clashes after the end of the first half during Friday’s Apoel – Karmiotissa match. According to police, a number of fans of the two teams clashed with each other before police and private security guards intervened.

During investigations, one person was found to be in possession of a large knife. He was found in the stadium’s toilets, where a second knife was found in a bin during a search.

He was transferred to the Strovolos police station for questioning where the aliens and migration service discovered he was residing illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.
