EU Transport Commissioner in Cyprus for maritime conference

EU Transport Commissioner Adina Valean will be in Cyprus on Sunday to attend the opening of the Maritime Cyprus conference in Limassol.

The conference officially kicks off Sunday night with a reception with the main event taking place on Monday.

Valean will meet President Nicos Anastasiades later on Sunday and with representatives of the shipping industry with whom she will discuss the effort to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from shipping in the EU and internationally.

On Monday, Valean will address the opening of the conference together with Anastasiades and the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, Kitak Lim.

She will also have a meeting with Transport Minister Yannis Karousos and the Deputy Minister of Shipping Vassilis Demetriades after which they will hold a joint news conference around 12.30pm.

Also on Monday, Valean will have a meeting with the president and the members of the transport committee of the House and will later participate in a discussion with students at the Cyprus University of Technology on maritime studies.
